Nationally Recognised Training

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

The Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) may be completed through a Smart and Skilled Traineeship / School Based Traineeship / Entitlement pathway or a Fee for Service enrolment.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Work placement
This qualification requires the successful completion of a minimum of 120 hours of direct support work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

For those already employed within a suitable industry setting, work placement can be completed as part of your normal working hours as long as the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency are met.

Work placement opportunities will be identified as part of the enrolment process and students requiring to undertake work placement will be supported to complete this once all necessary milestones have been met.

Career Pathways

Working in the Community Services industry can be an incredibly rewarding career with a wide range of opportunities.

People who successfully complete this course may choose to continue their studies by completing a Certificate IV qualification or specialising in a particular area such as ageing, disability or home and community care.

As much of the skills and knowledge that you will learn through a career in Community Services are transferrable, this is a great industry for those considering a future career in roles such as nursing or other allied health professions such as occupational therapy, podiatry, social work, psychology or physiotherapy.

Traineeship

A traineeship combines on-the-job work and formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to obtain a nationally recognised qualification. Traineeships can be undertaken by fulltime and part-time employees and may attract government subsidies based on eligibility criteria.

School Based Traineeship

School Based Traineeships are available to Year 10, 11 and 12 high school students in NSW. They allow students to commence a traineeship while at school. School based trainees work part-time and complete their traineeship by the end of their HSC year. A school based traineeship (SBAT) combines paid work, training and school; as well as an industry-recognised national qualification.

Traineeships

This pathway is for learners undertaking study as part of a signed training contract with their Employer and includes planned site visits.

Work-based

This pathway is for learners employed within the industry and undertaking study with employer support outside of a traineeship.

Classroom delivery

Learning occurs through face-to-face or virtual sessions including weekday, evening and Saturday sessions.

Blended delivery

Learning occurs through a combination of classroom sessions, work-based, virtual and/or distance delivery.
