Smart & Skilled – NSW

The Smart and Skilled program is a New South Wales Government initiative that provides government-subsidised training to eligible individuals, aiming to equip them with skills aligned to industry needs and employment opportunities.

Smart and Skilled training covers:

  • Certificate I to Advanced Diploma
  • selected Foundational Skills courses
  • selected traineeships
  • all apprenticeships (fee-free apprenticeships are available under this program for eligible apprentices who started training on or after 1 July 2018)

Are you eligible?

You may be eligible for Smart and Skilled funding if you:

✔  are aged 15 years or older, and

✔  have left school (excluding home-schooled students who are registered by the NSW Education Standards Authority), and

✔  are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen, and

✔  live or work in New South Wales, or

✔  an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who does not live or work in NSW but lives in specific defined interstate NSW border areas

Other eligibility criteria conditions and exemptions may be applicable. More information can be found at education.nsw.gov.au.

You may be eligible for fee exemptions when enrolling in a Smart and Skilled course if you’re:

  • an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student
  • a student with disability
  • an Australian Government welfare recipient.

  • CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

  • CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support
  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support
  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
  • CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support
  • CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support
  • BSB30120 Certificate III in Business
  • BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management

* This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.
